SMU Cox School recognizes Ed Dawson with 50th excellence award for ‘Deals 301’ seminar

DALLAS, April 2, 2014 – Ed Dawson, chairman, president and CEO of Capital Alliance Corp. (www.cadallas.com), has become the first seminar instructor in the Edwin L. Cox Business Leadership Center (BLC) at Southern Methodist University (SMU) to earn 50 Teaching Excellence Awards. His 50th award came as a result of a seminar titled “Deals 301” presented on March 24.

Dawson has been an instructor in the BLC for the last 14 years, when the program has grown to include 90 programs and approximately 60 instructors. During this time he has repeatedly been awarded Teaching Excellence Awards for seminars on topics like power negotiating, deal negotiations, developing trust in negotiations, demonstrating negotiating skills, effective communication skills, price negotiating and many other time-proven approaches to complex merger negotiations. No other instructor has received more than 35 excellence awards. Ratings by the students form the basis for each Teaching Excellence Award.

“Ed’s record of achievement with the students is very impressive,” said Genevieve Meek, program manager of the BLC. “Over the years he has certainly distinguished himself among the instructors that make up the BLC. Attendance at his seminars, which is not required for a degree program, is consistently strong and the students always rate him very highly.”

Through the BLC, graduate students studying for their Master’s Degrees in Business Administration (MBA) gain insight into various facets of business leadership. BLC instructors are business leaders drawn from prominent national and international firms who come to the SMU campus to share their extensive knowledge with Cox students. In addition to Capital Alliance, instructors have come from many well-known companies, including Accenture, Container Store, Grant Thornton LLC, Texas Instruments and many more.
