At age 32, Ed Dawson seemingly had it all. He had a middle management job at Texas Instruments, a good marriage and five children. But he wanted to do something on his own, so he answered an ad in the paper from someone who was starting an investment bank. Dawson liked what the guy had to say, so he ditched the salary, bonuses and benefits of TI for a full-commission, no-salary position handling mergers and acquisitions.
